Lifeguard to the rescue...

Vin used to be a lifeguard (if you saw a list of all the jobs he's had you'd think he was 105 years old). This comes in really handy when you live in a country where everyone is scared of the water and no one learns how to swim because they are scared of the water.

But that doesn't stop them from going swimming...

And so, Vin has now saved 2 people from drowning in the ocean. The most recent person was this weekend. The story goes something like this...

Vin goes down to Kenting to wakeboard with his family. The propeller on the boat breaks so the boat is down for the count. Vin feels like the $100 he spent on his train ticket to get him to the Southern most part of Taiwan for the day would've better been spent on something else. He sits on the beach gazing out towards the ocean he was hoping to be wakeboarding on. He sees 2 people in the act of drowning and hears people screaming to throw a tube towards them. The one drowning person grabs the tube. Vin swims out to the other drowning person and drags him back to shore while everyone else just sits and watches (because, of course, no one knows how to swim).

And apparently only one person knew how to appreciate his efforts because only one person on the whole beach that were watching this said so much as a 'thanks' or a 'good job'.

Well, Vin, I appreciate your efforts. And I take great comfort in the fact that you can save my life if I ever fall off a boat in the ocean and freak out (I would). And in such a freak-out scenario I take even greater comfort in the fact that you have already told me you will simply knock me out with your head and drag me back to shore with nary a struggle.

Ahh, the comfort.
