We managed to stay in hotels (Best Western) that had a complimentary breakfast each morning, but the Best Western we stayed at in Kelowna was by far the best breakfast the whole trip. You could make your own waffle, there were hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, muffins, and it was in a great big fancy looking atrium. Good start to a long day of feeding Dillon Gold Fish crackers and playing peek-a-boo to get him to the next rest stop.
3 Valley Gap. We stopped here for lunch since the boys (Dillon) couldn't go on without the stop. I'm not sure what the deal is with the man and mule, but Grandpa had Atticus convinced that if he could pull the rope hard enough the mule would move. He gave it his all.

All the railroad tracks are nailed down. What a very good idea. Not much lunch was eaten by him, but he had fun driving the train around anyways.

A roadside diaper change with the sun shining directly in his eyes and pebbles in his back (Grandma gave him her pillow to soften the experience). I should have gotten...
...the potty out (this picture is from a different time, but it shows what the potty looks like better). I love this potty.
Another stop in Revelstoke at the rest stop with the semis on one side and the train on the other. This time time Atticus had other little boys there to play with, and Dillon didn't care because he'd rather mooch off Grandma's iced cappucino.

And this time in Lake Louise we stopped (I needed diapers for the boys, but at $22 for 30 diapers I bought 1 size in the middle of the 2 boys' sizes and made them share). We did a bit of walking around and actually enjoying the mountains. It was such a nice time to be there since it wasn't busy.

We drove another hour or less and made it to Saskatchewan River Crossing. It's really just a rest stop/gas station/motel/restaurant. It felt like being in the middle of nowhere, just out in the bushes being one with nature (except we were thankfully safe behind locked doors from the scary nature {a bear had been seen in the parking lot area that morning}).

Thank you, Dillon, for crying so long and loud that they finally ended our misery that is our car seats today.
Dillon was a turkey to go to sleep and thus so was Atticus. Since our room was small that meant the whole lot of us had to wait out the 'episode' before we could go to bed. We got up pretty early and got on the road so we could have breakfast elsewhere (a piece of toast at the restaurant was $4!). We didn't have a very long day to get to our final destination (the Keay's house in Fort Saskatchewan), and it was a good thing because Dillon was really and truly done with his car seat. This is the calm after the storm-cried-so-hard-he-just-wore-himself-out.

We made it the Keay's by late afternoon and were greeted by Jeremy and Buffy's 2 kids, Sam and Eli. The kids had a great time on the trampoline (this one didn't have a net around it so Atti had to adjust his jumping style).

We stayed at the Keay's for 2 nights so the kids could have at least 1 full day break from traveling. I hadn't seen Jeremy and Buffy for many years so it was really good to see them and their boys. We headed home Monday morning and when I told Dillon this was the last travel day he looked like this...

Probably no one is reading this as it's taken me so long to get this all done (20+ hours, 100+ if you count all the interruptions), but I'd just like to state for the record (for the 2 of you that read this...) that it was a great trip and despite the sometimes difficult times in the car the kid's had a great time. Mom and Dad went out of their way to make this a fun trip for us all and I really appreciated the break. They put in a lot of childcare time, driving time, and trying to keep Dillon from crawling off the bed time. So, Mom and Dad, if you're reading this thank you for making our little family vacation what it was. We had a great time and we hope you did too.

Thanks for sharing your life! It looks and sounds like it was a GREAT time with a few little boy reality moments.
Ahh the mixture of tolerating life's discomforts!
