Swim class...

Atticus tends to be a bit bored in his swimming lesson. The only part that really interests him is the jumping-off-the-side-of-the-pool part. And just so jumping into the water doesn't get boring he tries to spice it up by doing a pre-jump dance or some sort of goofy movement. But yesterday he stood, bent at the waist with his head and hands at his feet, and dove in. It was a perfect little learning-how-to-dive dive. When he came up he shouted out to his Grandpa, "Under! Under!".

The last 5 minutes of class the kids can play with toys or go down the slide. Last week Vin put him at the top of the slide (it's not real long, but steep and REALLY fast), told him to wait, and then quickly jumped in the water at the base of the slide (I would NEVER have done this). The first time was fine, but the second time he fell back on the way down and hit his head. He speaks of this often..."Slide. Ouch. Ouch slide. Hurt."

Yesterday he was as eager as ever to go down the slide. The first time I went with him, and the second time I let him go by himself and waited at the bottom (b/c Vin had already tested this method).

So, there I am waiting with open arms at the bottom of the slide when this lightning fast flash of Atticus comes whipping down the slide and disappears into the depths of the pool.

Seriously, I could not see him anywhere with the gargantuan splash that came along with him. It took me a full 3 seconds (long if you think about it from Atti's perspective) to find a body part of his and pull him up (by his leg). His teacher was watching and when I hauled him up she asked him if he was ok.

"Under!" he says with a really big smile.

"Do yo want to go down the slide again?" she asks.

"No." he replies very assuredly.

However, if you ask him about the slide at swim class now he still says, "Slide. Ouch. Ouch slide. Hurt." Nothing about going under.

What a good sport.

Not sure I can explain this story well enough to even be worth blogging about, but for my own records I'll give it a go.

Dillon and I were in the laundry room sorting laundry. Since Dill was in the process of totally soaking himself with slobber I asked Atticus to go and get Dillon a bib and to "put it right here" (on the laundry hamper). He walked into his room and stood at the door looking around for where they were. On his way to the bibs he got distracted by his CD player and ended up playing his music and forgetting all about his bib mission.

A few minutes later when he hadn't returned and was then in the livingroom playing I just went and got a bib myself and put it on Dill. I ran upstairs to grab something and when I came back down I noticed Dill was no longer wearing his bib...

It was on the laundry hamper.

I guess Atti remembered I'd asked him to get one and when he saw Dill had one he figured he could just take that one and "put it right here".

Well, I thought it was cute.
