It's been a week since Dillon's 2nd birthday and I just haven't been able to get anything posted about it. Working full time and training 2 horses and somehow getting a few hours of sleep and spending time with the kids is no easy matter. I like to be busy, and sometimes it's better to be so busy you don't realize just how busy (and tired!) you are, but I do miss those 4 full days each week that I'm not around (awake) to take the boys out. Anyways, by the end of summer things should slow down some and I should be down to one horse and fewer hours at work.
So, because I'm short on time (and sleep) I'm keeping this simple and in order of how the pictures came to me. You may have to read between a few lines.
Vin's been taking Silas cycling; but possibly not enough for Silas' liking?
Going for a spin at Grandma and Grandpa's. A very relaxed spin.
When I told Atti we were walking to the fireworks on Canada Day he dumped out my purse (argh), filled it up with toys, got his hat, Silas (leash on his handle bar), and waited at the gate for Grandma and Grandpa to come. The devastation (and tantrum!) in his heart can not be described when I told him he couldn't ride his bike (too far, too grassy). And it lasted half way to the fireworks!
How old are you going to be, Atti? This was before the horribly heart-breaking 'can't ride your bike' news.
But Silas did get to come (and he didn't ride his bike either).
Bit of rain, but nothing major.
Dillon making his birthday cake.
Horse #1 - Packin'thefire (oh how I hate that name). This was the one I was initially given. She's been a really successful race horse, but hasn't been winning like she used to, so...
Dillon came with me to bring the horses to my friend's place. Check out the kitten in the cup holder area. Too cute.
Packin'thefire (did I mention how much I HATE that name?)
Dillon making the icing for his cake. He enjoyed it, really he did.
The party. We had a great big bounce house for the entire day. It provided the kids some entertainment and the adults some shade.
The birthday boys.
Water balloon fight. How long it took us to fill them up (and tie!!), and how short it took them to break them all...
Yup, this balloon landed right in my face.
But Auntie Carrie landed a bucket of water on him.
The big boy and all his stuff.
I asked him what kind of a cake he wanted and he right away said a popsicle, so we went with that (later he changed it to 'candy', but that was a bit vague).
His little cousin, Cameron, is 2 in August.
The party ended an hour before the bounce house (was supposed) to leave so us 4 climbed in and bounced around (some more than others).
And the next day we piled the boys into the trailer (Dill's birthday gift from us) and went...
to pick up Silas at the kennel. He was banished from the party, and to top it all off was made to run back home the next day. And yes, Vin had to pull both kids in the trailer AND hold the dog; I was on my road bike and due to the very different braking arrangement (than a mtn bike) it's really awkward and not cool to ride with a (unpredictable) dog. What some may see as a guy pulling a couple kids in a trailer and a dog running along side, I see as a guy pulling a couple kids in a trailer and a dog running along side and an EMPTY BABY SEAT that really should be filled...
All in all it went very well, but we did take one water break for the old man on 4 legs.
There's more (and better shots of Dill's party) to come, but it's now after midnight and I really should be doing almost anything other than being on the computer.
