It was that time again. I love that time. I think the kids just look so super cute coming out of the salon with a freshly cut do with a little dab of kiddy gel in the front. I had to hold Dillon during his haircut, as per usual, but he was down with a spin on the quad afterwards.
He'd just pulled the rubber grip off the handle.
Not long after the question regarding Silas not talking words to him, Atticus made the observation that Caillou's cat, Gilbert, doesn't run away from Caillou but Odus runs away from him. There was no question or wonderment as to WHY Gilbert doesn't run away but Odus does, just a statement.
And I'm thinking it's because he KNOWS EXACTLY WHY Odus runs away from him. Why ask the question.
So I put them both in the dog run to try and work their differences out.
Luge run: long gone.
Snowboard hill: gone as well. And I'm thrilled to death to say good-bye to the snow.
This little monkey has outdone himself. Today he pooped and peed on the potty on 2 different occasions. I've never encouraged him to start potty training, but whenever he asks to go I take him. I started Atticus this early (21 months), but it wasn't until well after his 2nd birthday that he was actually potty trained. I have no desire to drag it out with Dillon, but if he's willing to give it a go now I'll go along with it (although I still think it may well peter out before it becomes much more than a novelty to him). And, you have to know, Atticus required a spot on the potty right after to do his thing so Dillon couldn't soak up all the limelight. Atti then looks up at me with his big doe eyes and says, 'Are you so proud of me, too, Mommy?'
You have no idea.
Also, what's neat about this is that with everything else (sitting up, rolling over, crawling, weaning, walking, talking...) Dillon has been a bit slower than Atticus. I'd already been sent to a specialist about his 'delayed' early milestones and was recently referred to a speech pathologist. He's done everything he's supposed to in his own time, but maybe this is his time to do something BEFORE his brother did.
And then immediately after the whole Dillon-potty-pooping-party I promptly closed the bathroom door (the hinge side) on Atti's fingers. You can see a thin red line across his fingernail part way down...that's actually his cuticle. His fingernail is above and below that...the skin has been squeezed off from the part of the fingernail that is supposed to be under the skin just above the top joint. It actually looks like someone set a fake nail on top of his own nail...all raised up and bloody. The poor little kid cried his eyes out for about 20 minutes and then says to me, 'I'm ok. I'm a big, brave boy'.
Braver than me, little one, braver than me.
He finally let me put a band-aid on it before bed as I was afraid he'd catch the nail on something and pull it off while he slept. I gave the little trooper some Tylenol and hoped he'd be able to sleep.
And then crawled under a rock for causing him pain.
