Meet retired racehorse project #3

Lorne's Lassie, aka, Flynn. We had a rough beginning to our story; when Kristin led her into the trailer she wouldn't let Kristin get out of said trailer. When she'd try to walk past her she let her back feet fly, and when Kristin would put any pressure on her side to move her over she'd lean/sit/squish Kristin into the side of the trailer. I helplessly stood praying that Kristin didn't get hurt and somehow was able to get out.

There was another battle once we got her to 'Camp Kristin's', but we'll just say that neither party won that one and it's something that will certainly be addressed again.

She's not as tall as I thought she was; probably somewhere around the height Pete is (15.3hh). But she's sturdy and wide chested and very strong. And she has a bit more 'blaze' than I'd like.

She's spent MANY hours standing here learning some patience and manners. She has some anxiety issues with regards to being on her own, so this is good for that too. You never know how a race horse ties so this is a good way to find out without them breaking their halter, shank, or post (she's tied with a special halter and shank and tied up to a big railway tie).

I was on her once before back where she came from, but never really did anything on her. My saddle is at work so I used Kristin's western saddle. She's got pulling issues (on the reins) and can't bring herself to stand still when I'm on her, but I think she's going to make a good riding horse and I'll be able to easily sell her before June (that's when the next crop of race horses get canned).

The arena at Kristin's is almost done. I think it's 80x120x16 with a 24x20 addition on the side. The guys out there have been working really hard in the cold and dark and should have it done by the end of the weekend. I can't wait!
