Been awhile. Since the weather has been so nice and there's so much to do outside (mostly in the yard) we've been doing just that. Also, I normally work 24 hours/week and these last 2 weeks combined had me working 67 hours. Can't seem to get a handle on the time and it just whisks by without any notice!
Vin and I managed to grab a night at the Delta Bessborough this week and I can't even tell you how fantastic it was to just have 24 hours to ourselves without children crying or interrupting or being needy or fighting or...
We had lunch at Park Cafe on 20th and it was a pretty good experience. The steak is great and the ambiance is fun (diner style). We had a really nice supper at Tusque (across from the hotel) and thoroughly enjoyed our food and the friendly service. The desserts are also really good and not a bad price ($7).
But mainly, it was just cathartic to have each other all to ourselves and to just do and go where we wanted. Vin had all kinds of insightful things to say (really, I was astonished at how wise he can be when you just let him speak). One of these days I'll explain something he said that really turned so many things around for me/us that have been going the wrong way for getting on 4 years now.
But for now, Vin is cooking up a storm and I want to reap some of those benefits!
**Edited to add...
This was also a big deal because it's the first time in 3 1/2 years that Vin and I have done anything that involved an overnight together without kids.

Oh man... I'm so jealous! Although I'd be a nervous wreck to leave my kids anywhere overnight (especially after having to "abandon" little M for a month after D was born), I'd LOVE to have just big M and me time. We had a lot of it while D was in the NICU, but it's not the same while you're worrying about one child who had never slept away from home til then, one child who is in the NICU connected to a million different things, pumping every few seconds (it felt like), etc. Sounds like you guys had a fantabulous time!!
Makes a big difference when 'anywhere' is with their grandparents that they lived with for a year (with me, of course!). It helps to know the kids are happy and in good hands.
I'm so glad you guys got away... even if it was only 24hours!! I'm looking forward to your explanation of Vin's insightful words : )

I want to know the insightful words, too!
insightful words from a husband......like an oxymoron isn't it........
Just kidding. Occassionally we surprise even ourselves.
way to go... sounds like it was a milestone event - and fun and delicious all wrapped into one!
