Donald Longueil
DONALD A. LONGUEIL August 23, 1913 September 25, 2009 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Dad and Grandfather on September 25, 2009 at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Dad was comforted by having his family at his side on his short journey home. Dad is survived by his four children, Beverly Ochitwa, Dave (Gerrie) Longueil, Debbie (Gord) Browne and Darlene Phillips; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; and two nephews, Don and Bob Sawatzky. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Edythe and an infant sister; also by first wife, Laureen and second wife, Mary; and son-in-law, David Ochitwa. Dad was born in Warman, SK and grew up on a farm in that area and later farmed in the Aberdeen area. He married Laureen Swenson in 1938 and moved into Saskatoon where their four children were born. Dad first worked for Purity Dairy and later for the CN Railway during the war years. His interest in steam developed there and Dad later became a steam engineer at the T. Eaton Company. He became the manager of the Plant Unit until his retirement in 1978. Not content to be idle, Dad then worked for a short time for Belfer Security, then for Brinks for 8 years. His last employment was at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Dad and his second wife, Mary enjoyed many fishing trips and were avid gardeners. Dad enjoyed motorcycles and with his 1981 Goldwing he travelled many miles going for coffee and to rallies where he usually won The Oldest Rider trophy. Part of Dad's regular routine was visiting with the staff at the WDM and the Co-op on 8th Street. He enjoyed their kind friendship and special treatment. Dad celebrated his 96th birthday with a large family party in his yard. His unique character and sense of humor will be missed by all. The celebration of Dad's life will be held Friday, October 2, 2009 at l:00 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, Saskatoon, Designated Account. Arrangements entrusted to Derryl Hildebrandt.
