I spent the first 4 hours of work today building snow forts with 9 very eager little girls. I must say we built some rather fantastic forts and it was a total trip to be out in the sunshine with such a fun bunch of kids. There are certainly some of the girls I'm more drawn towards, but overall they really are good kids that just got dealt a rough hand. It really did my heart good to take them out and play hard at something they really enjoy doing.
But now I move on to the night shift. I'm definitely going to miss the interaction with the girls, but we just couldn't work out Vin and my schedule so one of us could watch the kids while the other was at work. Neither of us think it should be Mom and Dad's job to watch our kids so we can work, so to the night shift I must go.
I may have to take a day shift every now and again, though, to keep my fort building skills brushed up!

You are be a blessing to these kids so take a day shift now and then, "Mom and Dad" don't mind helping out now and then.
There are also good childcare options in the city. I totally understand wanting to avoid that if possible, but having used childcare in the city, it made me more open to the possibility if I needed it in the future. Of course, you have to check places out really well, but just throwing that out there if you ever decide that's an option. In face, the place Jared went when I had my contract is quite close to you and she was excellent, and turns out she's a Christian! I only found that out after Ayda was born and I didn't need her services anymore.
