My plan was to work part-time, somewhere around 20-24 hours a week. This week I'll be putting in 32, and next week will be the same. I'm working with the Saskatchewan Foster Family Association, specifically with a family fostering 11 kids ages 6-15. The majority have been sexually abused, and the majority of those have reactive attachment disorder (RAD). These kids are the tough cases, the ones no one else wants.
Yesterday I was helping one of them learn O' Canada so she could audition for a part in 'Cinderella' at school. And every day I help all the little girls with their reading homework. They're terrible abused and troubled girls, but they're also just kids. Kids that want to be like all the other kids at school.
The foster home I work at is a great place with very loving and caring foster parents. They have horses and I'm fortunate enough to be able to teach the kids riding lessons. I'm astonished at how wonderfully put together this job is for me, and how wonderfully put together I am (so to speak) for this job. It's a really difficult job in some respects, but really easy in others. And it's been good to get out of the house and let Vin take a bigger role in taking care of the boys (Dillon has really warmed up to him these last few days).
Due to the situation most of these kids are in I can't say too much more than this, but I'll let you know how things progress if/when I can.

Sounds like a wonderful fit for you...It was cute to see how devastated Dill was when Vincent dropped him off, oh how he wanted Daddy (it went away once we played with all the balls in the house). But he sure ran into Vincent's arms when he returned. Glad it's working out for all of you.
does sound like a great fit for you... what a wonderful way to nurture and love some other kids in the community!
